Join us for boat trip to the stunning Farne Islands. See where Grace Darling and her father set sail to rescue shipwrecked sailors on the rugged Farne rocks. Witness curious seals swim along side our boat with their cheeky little faces as they bob up and down in the water. If we are lucky the local dolphins may also put on a show for us. It’s amazing how close you can get to these cute little birds. Whitby transforms into a gothic dreamscape twice a year. Think dramatic costumes, moody seaside mist, and the haunting silhouette of Whitby Abbey. Every frame has it’s unique story to tell—Don’t forget your cameras to capture the beauty, electric atmosphere, mystery, and bold self-expressions.
📸 Whitby Goth Weekend: A Photographer’s Dreamscape
Twice a year, the historic seaside town of Whitby transforms into a living canvas of gothic elegance, theatrical flair, and alternative expression. Whitby Goth Weekend (WGW) is more than a subcultural gathering—it's a visual feast for photographers drawn to dramatic contrasts, rich textures, and evocative storytelling.
From the haunting silhouette of Whitby Abbey perched above the town to the cobbled streets teeming with corseted figures, steampunk inventors, and Victorian mourners, every corner offers a frame-worthy moment. The event’s roots in gothic music and fashion have blossomed into a celebration of creativity, where attendees become walking works of art—adorned in lace, leather, velvet, and feathers, with makeup that ranges from romantic to macabre.
Photographers will find:
• Portrait opportunities: Striking costumes, expressive faces, and elaborate accessories make for compelling character studies.
• Atmospheric backdrops: The ruins of the Abbey, foggy coastlines, and vintage architecture lend cinematic depth to every shot.
• Candid street scenes: Markets, parades, and spontaneous performances offer dynamic, unscripted moments.
• Low-light drama: Evening events and shadowy alleys challenge and reward those who master ambient light and mood.
Whether you're capturing the grandeur of a group procession or the intimacy of a solitary figure against the misty sea, Whitby Goth Weekend invites you to explore the interplay of identity, history, and imagination through your lens. So don’t forget your camera, speedlight, and spare batteries.
** Members will have to arrange their own transport too and from Whitby.
For those who arrive on the Saturday, Kevin and I will be there all day Saturday 2nd if you want to have a meet up at 11:00AM, outside the ABBEY WHARF over the bridge (Abbey Side) in the centre of Whitby
